Your subscriber has just lost a phone. In the past, the only thing you could do was to back out charges for calls made on the lost or stolen handset. Not very helpful when sensitive contacts, files and information are on the device. Not very satisfying for the subscriber to hear that there is nothing that can be done.

30% of mobile phones are lost, stolen or damaged in the 1st year of ownership.

The impact of lost and stolen phones goes well beyond just unauthorized calls and data use. Many devices hold some sort of confidential data. This data can be anything from sensitive business plans, correspondence in the form of SMSs and email, dialing records, spreadsheets, presentations, documents or images.

A single incident of identity fraud can cost $30,000 or more.

Over half of self described “security conscious” subscribers don’t even bother to set passwords on their phones, leaving whatever contacts, correspondence and records on the device open to the world. In many cases, the information on a mobile phone could easily be used for identity theft or other fraudulent purposes with economic impact well beyond the cost of any calls that might be made.

Mobile Lock and Wipe prevents unauthorized use and keeps confidential data out of unauthorized hands.

When all hope (or at least your subscriber’s phone) is lost, the subscriber is often in a panic. In many cases potentially sensitive personal and/or business related contact, pictures and other information may be on the device which is no longer under the control of the subscriber. As a mobile network operator you can throw them a life preserver in the form of Lock and Wipe, which will keep sensitive information from falling into the wrong hands and prevent identity theft, loss of corporate trade secrets and relationship-ending misunderstandings, all of which have considerable value to the subscriber - value reflected in revenue, satisfaction or both.

Mobile Lock and Wipe Features:

  • Lock - lock the device so it can no longer be used.
    • Alarm - the locked device an emit an alarm sound, making it easier to recover
    • Battery drain - the locked device can be set to rapidly drain the battery, enhancing security
    • Lock w/PIN - subscriber can unlock by entering the PIN, the number of unlock attempts can be defined by the operator
    • Ultralock - nobody but the operator can unlock the device
  • Wipe - delete data so others cannot read it
    • Wipe all data or selective wipe
    • Delete Contacts, Calendar, Tasks, Notes, Settings
    • Delete messages, multimedia
    • Delete data from SIM including PIM data, userid
    • Delete data settings, applications, settings or services


 

Many new smartphones ship with 8GB or more storage. To put that in perspective this can be as many as:

  • 50,000,000 text messages
  • 8,000,000 emails
  • 80,000 pictures
  • 8,000 spreadsheets
