Network Operator Solutions
Configuration Management

Benefits
  • Configure devices OTA
  • Customer Care
  • Subscriber Self Care
  • Network operators are faced with some significant challenges, not the least of which is ensuring that handsets are configured correctly to work with lucrative data and other services. InnoPath's Configuration Manager allows operators to configure mobile phones over the air, reducing the magnitude of the challenge considerably.

    Configuration Manager allows operators to:

    • Manage the handset and, along with it, the subscriber experience
    • Reduce support costs
    • Improve the subscriber experience and increase subscriber satisfaction
    • Drive revenue by enabling increased data services usage

When a subscriber wants to try a new service, it is vital that the service work. Experience has shown that a subscriber who has discovered a new service will try that service once, perhaps twice, and will not be willing to spend much more than a few minutes to get the service up and running.

Open networks, both GSM and CDMA, only add to the challenges facing network operators. Subscribers want to use whatever phone they happened to bring but they would prefer not to have to go thru complex manual configurations. With subsidized handsets, it can be even worse, with subscribers often wanting to return handsets if they are unable to use a particular service, regardless of whether or not the service has been provisioned or configured.

When used with InnoPath's Workflow Manager, Configuration Manager provides the ability to translate business logic into revenue generating device management actions. For example, when a new device has been discovered on the network, this could mean first checking if the handset has been provisioned in the MMSC for MMS, and, if not, provisioning it. It could then include sending MMS and GPRS settings over the air and finally sending a welcome MMS. This assures that revenue generating MMS services are available. The workflow could also access a black list of devices, such as preconfigured devices offered by the operator, which do not require settings sent down to them, reducing network usage. Additionally, workflows can be used such that different devices or groups of devices could be treated differently depending upon the needs of the operator.

    InnoPath offers two configuration modules.

Configuration Management allows the operator to set configurations on one or more devices using OMA-DM and OMA-CP.

Configuration Verification adds the ability to verify and set configurations on the device using OMA-DM protocol.
