Leading Mobile Device Management Company InnoPath Partners With SMobile Systems To Provide Mobile Device Security
Enables Key End-to-End Mobile Security
Solution for Both Operators and Subscribers
Sunnyvale , California and COLUMBUS,
Ohio, September 12, 2007 — Mobile
phones are no longer just for making phone
calls, they hold vital personal data including
financial information. These increasingly
popular devices are Internet-enabled and
vulnerable to attacks from mobile hackers
and identity thieves, making security for
this sensitive information not an option – but
a must.
To meet the exploding need for handset-based
and carrier-level security, InnoPath Software
(www.innopath.com),
the leader in end-to-end mobile device management,
and SMobile Systems (www.smobilesystems.com),
a pioneer developer of comprehensive anti-intrusion
and anti-virus security products for mobile networks
and devices, have signed a definitive, global
agreement to offer wireless carriers an efficient
means for activating new security features directly
on their customers’ wireless devices.
The collaboration integrates
the SMobile firewall, anti-virus, and security
policy enforcement capabilities into InnoPath’s Integrated Mobile Device
Management (iMDM) architecture, and is driven
by the need for wireless operators to better
protect the increasing number of applications
on today’s mobile phones and handheld devices.
“Individuals and businesses are becoming
more reliant on mobile phones, PDAs and other
mobile data devices for everything from complex
business transactions to everyday communications.
These devices are becoming so integrated into
our daily lives that we don’t leave home
or work without them. The data stored on these
devices has become of critical value and therefore
protecting it from outside attacks, or even from
unintended loss, is of the utmost importance,” said
David Ginsburg, Vice President, Marketing & Product
Management for InnoPath. “Today, without
a unified device management capability, it would
be cost-prohibitive to provision and maintain
software updates across the vast number of devices
and applications that are powered by carrier
networks. SMobile understands InnoPath’s
iMDM architecture and together we have developed
the most integrated over-the-air approach to
save the operator significant operational expenses
and dramatically reduce the time to provision,
diagnose and refresh mobile devices with critical
security updates.”
InnoPath counts major operators
in Japan (KDDI, Softbank) and North America
(AT&T, Sprint)
among its key customers and serves a total carrier
subscriber base of more than 255 million users
through its server platform. Additionally, InnoPath’s
iMDM client has been ported to over 200 handset
models.
Under terms of the agreement,
InnoPath’s
iMDM offer will incorporate the SMobile VirusGuard
and SMobile Firewall security products that reside
in mobile devices, complemented by SMobile CoreStats,
the operator’s end-to-end security policy
enforcement and management system.
“Partnering with InnoPath is an important
step in helping to make the SMobile security
platform the industry standard around the world,” said
Richard “Rick” Roscitt, Chairman
and Chief Executive Officer of SMobile Systems. “Considering
InnoPath’s market presence, we foresee
that our security products will soon be embedded
in millions of mobile devices.”
