InnoPath Press Release

Innopath Software Introduces Activation-Based Client Pricing And No-Cost Porting Programs

Company Re-defines the Mobile Device Management Client Pricing Paradigm

AMSTERDAM - May 14, 2007 - InnoPath Software, the leader in end-to-end Integrated Mobile Device Management solutions, announces InnoPath Advantage, a rich set of programs that address device manufacturer (OEM) time-to-market, financial, and feature requirements for their next generation Mobile Device Management (MDM) clients.

To succeed in the competitive mobile market, operators must reduce time-to-market for new premium services, thereby enhancing customer brand satisfaction and retention through an optimal user experience. By eliminating all up-front financial and technical uncertainties, InnoPath’s programs permit OEMs to more quickly deliver feature-rich handsets.

Handset manufacturers face many challenges during development, deployment, and subsequent support of their MDM clients, including:

  • Up-front investment in client development
  • Understanding and complying with operator client specifications
  • Porting to new operating systems
  • Quality, stability, and extensibility of the client once ported
  • Interoperability testing with operator-specific MDM service configurations
  • Minimizing handset costs once the client is deployed

The programs announced today directly address these OEM concerns, greatly reducing risk with regards to their client programs, and setting a new standard for MDM client vendors. Client success is ensured through open interoperability testing and training, while the combination of no-cost porting, activation-based pricing, and lowest-pricing protection will eliminate any financial uncertainties.

"IDC sees significant growth in MDM, based on the strong value proposition for operators and device OEMs," said Stephen Drake, Program Director for Mobile Enterprise at IDC. "However, significant challenges remain. Suppliers who proactively address OEM concerns will help drive MDM-enabled device uptake, advancing the widespread deployment of MDM within operator networks and creating a win-win for both the operator and the handset vendor."

Ensuring Client Success

InnoPath focuses on device manufacturer client deployment pains including handset interoperability testing, compliance with operator client specifications, and enhancing client quality with:

  • Open Functional test labs – to ensure the device management client works seamlessly within the device and with all server-side MDM implementations
  • Open interoperability (IOT) testing – to ensure that all client implementations work with all operator MDM environments
  • A ‘Test One’ initiative for third-party OMA-DM client-server testing – to confirm the MDM client delivers the required performance and functionality when used with Open Mobile Alliance server-side MDM solutions
  • Free client porting to new operating systems – to address the cost and complexity involved in porting an MDM client to new operating systems

Addressing Financial Uncertainties

InnoPath addresses uncertain financials of current client development programs, operator deployment schedules, and the need to minimize the handset costs (BOM) with:

  • Zero-cost basic client (OMA-compliant device management engine) – eliminating potentially high up-front licensing costs for embedding the InnoPath iMDM Device Suite on handsets
  • Activation-based pricing of all client applications – transforming the MDM licensing model to a pay-as-you-go model, where the handset manufacturer only pays when the device enters service (and generates revenue)
  • Guaranteed lowest-price protection – to ensure the device manufacturer always pays the lowest price, which includes matching licensing terms granted to operators
  • OEM Volume Buyout Program – to cap the maximum OEM royalties

Client Architecture Evolution

In conjunction with the programs described above, InnoPath, continues to evolve its industry-leading client capabilities by building upon the expertise gained from shipping over 100 million client instances on almost 200 unique handset models. New functionality includes support for the quickly growing converged device market that includes Windows Mobile, Symbian, and Linux, while optimizing the client for the more dynamic and sophisticated application environment supported by these platforms. The client is equally applicable to mobile, fixed, and embedded deployments. Paired with recently announced server capabilities, InnoPath’s fully integrated iMDM solution based on OMA-DM standards creates a virtuous cycle between server-side and client-side MDM developments, allowing operators to drive new high-margin service revenue while reducing operational expenses.

“InnoPath has deployed more clients into live networks than any other vendor, providing tremendous insight into the requirements that device OEMs have for introducing quality handsets into the marketplace,” said John Fazio, President and CEO of InnoPath. “These announcements today will help drive MDM-enabled device uptake, furthering the widespread deployment of MDM within operator networks.”

InnoPath Joins the Over-the-Air Flash Forum (OTAFF)

InnoPath has also recently joined the Over-the-Air Flash Forum (OTAFF), an industry organization consisting of network operators, handset manufacturers, MDM vendors, and system integrators designed to further the deployment of MDM solutions. Its commitment to the OTAFF is evidence of the importance it places in organizations that unite the key players within the MDM value chain. Recently, the OTAFF released a survey detailing top MDM cost saving and revenue-enabling capabilities. These drivers included automated customer care, content management including security, and the provisioning of new data services.

In line with its commitment to addressing these operator priorities, InnoPath will also be demonstrating new capabilities this week at the Handsets World conference in Amsterdam, including an end-to-end security management solution that includes Lock & Wipe, and application management based on the evolving OMA-DM SCOMO standard.
