KDDI Selects InnoPath's DeltaUpgrade PlusT for End-to-End Mobile Device Software Update
Proven, Update-Ready Solution to Deliver Over-the-Air Software and Firmware Updates for SANYO Mobile Handsets
TOKYO, Japan - July
21, 2004 - InnoPath
Software, (formerly DoOnGo
Technologies) the industry
leader in over-the-air (OTA)
mobile device software management,
today announced that KDDI Corp.,
a leading wireless operator
in Japan, has selected InnoPath's
DeltaUpgrade Plus solution
to provide fast, efficient
OTA delivery of advanced services
for KDDI handset users. InnoPath
is the only vendor KDDI is
working with to provide an
OTA-based software update solution
on its handsets. Deploying
this end-to-end solution will
accelerate time to market for
new products and services and
enable KDDI to instantly service
its customers, driving customer
satisfaction and loyalty.
Industry experts estimate that
$4 to $12 billion is spent annually
on handset replacement or refurbishment.
This estimate will only grow,
given the complex handsets that
are on the market: Next-generation
handset features now include
cameras and games. Armed with
these alarming statistics and
in light of the demand for next-generation
services and applications for
mobile phones, carriers and handset
manufacturers are looking to
a total solution that addresses
customer satisfaction needs by
increasing the speed of software
downloads and decreasing the
delay of in-device software updates.
InnoPath's DeltaUpgrade Plus
has filled that niche in the
market with the first end-to-end
OTA solution. Using DeltaUpgrade
Plus, KDDI will continue delivering
unmatched customer service by
dramatically reducing the time
it takes for customers to deploy
firmware updates in a modular
and flexible architecture. KDDI?s
commercial target is mid-2005.
"With the popularity
of sophisticated handsets on
the rise, a total solution dedicated
to fast, seamless software update
delivery is critical," said Mr.
Kimihiko Nakamura, General Manager,
Mobile Terminal Development Department, "au" Service & Product
Planning Division of KDDI Corporation. "A
OTA-based software update solution
will ensure our subscribers'
needs and increase customer satisfaction."
In addition to KDDI's deployment
of DeltaUprade Plus, InnoPath
and KDDI will also consider working
together to develop and deploy
future OTA enhancements. InnoPath's
future products include remote
diagnostics and feature upgrade
software applications; such as
native user interface update
that a wireless operator can
instantly download to its subscribers.
These strategic applications
will drive significant business
value, enabling wireless operators
to quickly identify and resolve
customer issues, improve the
mobile phone user experience,
and generate increased revenues.
"One way companies can differentiate
themselves from their competitors
in the highly competitive handset
market is with field-proven experience,
market leadership, and top-of-the-line
customer service," said Dr. Luosheng
Peng, CEO, chairman and co-founder
of InnoPath Software. "KDDI is
embracing the complexities of
its next-generation handsets
and is reassured that they are
providing the ultimate customer
service experience for their
customers by using InnoPath's
complete, end-to-end OTA solution,
DeltaUpgrade Plus," Dr. Luosheng
Peng added.
InnoPath will be exhibiting
at the Expo Comm Wireless event
in Tokyo, Japan, July 21-23,
Booth 528. CEO and Co-founder
Luosheng Peng will be speaking
on "Over-the-Air Software Updates
for Device Software Management:
The Challenges, Experiences,
and Future Direction" on Thursday,
July 22.
